Hummingbirds are great Pollinators-

Hummingbirds are great Pollinators-

Hummingbirds as do bee's play a very important role in our nature,
because both are responsible for pollinating certain kinds of flowers and plants. In nature our flowers and plants rely on insects, birds and other animals to pick up pollen from the anther of one flower to the other and then deliver it to the stigma of another.
With the Hummingbirds/Bees they are particularly well suited for this typed of the job. As they both fit among these flowers, feeding on nectar, they pick up grains of the pollen on their foreheads, bills and chins.
The pollen is then carried to the flowers of other plants and flowers. This is so very important, with the decline in the bee pollination of our food supply and also the hummingbirds.
It could be a  real problem for the coming year of 2014 if measures are not taken. We already have a huge food hunger problem around the world. With many feed the world programs.
The plant and the pollinator have a mutualistic relationship you could say and each derives an important benefit from one another - Plus for us humans too.
For the flower, the benefit is the transportation and appropriate placement of the pollen inside the flower. Which will ensure the reproduction of that flower, plant or food species.
As for our hummingbirds, the reward is in the form of the flower nectar.
A food source that is essential for its own survival.
Over millions of years, flowers have been evolving in thousands of different shapes, colors and enticing fragrance not to appeal to humanity, but rather to attract to the pollinators to ensure the life of the plant's survival.
Flowers that have evolved to be pollinated by hummingbirds usually have a slender tubular shape and are often the colors of red and orange.
Long, tubular flowers generally have more nectar at the base, which is much more difficult for the bees and other insects to reach these type of flowers, but the long bills and tongues of the tiny bee hummingbirds have adapted for these kinds flowers, in ways of getting to them sideways and even upside down. Making it very difficult for bees, butterflies, and other insects to get inside or to even land on these flowers.
But the hummingbirds of course have no problem at all getting to the nectar of these types of flowers; their advantage is being able to hover over, side or under these kind of flowers.
Hummingbirds will visit blooms of other colors too, such as purples, reds, blues etc., but most with go to the reddish hues.

Lucifer Hummingbirds

Lucifer Hummingbird-
For the love of the hummingbird~

The Lucifer hummingbird mainly lives in central and northern Mexico. There are a few that reach the South western part of the
United States too every year. These beautiful hummingbirds habitat area's is mostly open and often a rugged place where the type of flowering is quite frequent of these hummers. These flowers are the Ocotillo and the Agave Stalks.
These hummingbirds are particularly attracted to the flowers of the Agave plants. The larger species of the Agave plants are adapted for pollination by bats and generally reduce the much more nectar than your average pollinating flower.

This could be the very reason why the Lucifer Hummingbird has adapted to these unique flowers. Because of the fact that they

produce so much more nectar than your average pollinating flower.
These Lucifer Hummingbirds take advantage of these amazing flowers by feeding on them during
the day-time; by feeding on any of the surplus nectar that is left inside these Agave flowers that the bats like to feed on at night.

Since the flowers of the Agave are designed so differently then your

typical hummingbird flower, the Lucifer Hummingbirds have become an acted part of these flowers. What this means is, because
they make no contact with the sexual parts of the flower! hehehe. Interesting you might say! Now the dead Agave flower stalks often attract other competing nectar feeders such as the carpenter bee's, which use the dead stalks as their nesting sites. Another interesting fact is!
When the bee's are present they may cut out the bases of the flowers, thus depleting the nectar supply for all pollinators.

You might be curious  about the hummingbirds name? Well - The

Lucifer Hummingbird. It does have a biblical twist to it. Well that is just how he got his name, after the fallen archangel Lucifer who
was also known as the bearer of light, the torch bearer and the morning star.
For a little bit about the appearence and the unique courtship of theise hummingbirds-
We will start with the male- The male have dazzling purple throats and sides of the necks, buff-colored sides, and a long forked tail
that usually is tightly folded. The female- have a buff-colred breast and a pale streak behind the eye. The long, downward - curving bill of these hummingbirds is very distinctive, although the lenght and curvature of the bill can very greatly from each humming bird.
Courtship-
The courtship of the Lucifer hummingbirds is quite uniquie, because of the beautiful performs of the male. He will show off to his female mate while she sits in their nest.

These males will make multiple short flights back and forth and in so doing this at the same time will produce a loud, rustling
sounds with his wings. He then will fly high and dive steeply past the nest.
The Lucifer males are unusual in that they display all this at the nest site.

In most of the other hummingbirds the location of the nest has no
apparent connection to the display of this ritual. But to the  Lucifer hummingbirds it is. These hummingbirds nests are usually found in open cholla cactus on ocotillo stems and the stalks up to ten feet high.
I found these hummingbirds to be
A bit more independent and a bit overly excited! As you can see in one of the pictures! Much love to you all my dear Readers and Followers in the coming new year.. Again Thank you so much for all
Your support. Without all you! I would not have this beautiful

The Legend of the Christmas Stocking-

The Legend of the Christmas Stocking-
I thought I would also do a post on the History of the Christmas
Stocking too. It is also so much part of the holiday season too. When I first started looking for the legend or history about the first Christmas Stockings what I found - was the most common story of the most influential figure in the shape of today's Santa Claus, or St Nicholas of Myra a fourth-century bishop who was known for his charity and wisdom.
According to legend, a poor ITALIAN father was faced with selling one of his three daughters into slavery in order to afford the dowries needed for others to marry. One night the daughters had washed out their stockings and hung them over the fireplace to dry. Having heard of the family's misfortune, the good saint decided to pay them a visit. Late that night, in the darkness riding on his faithful white steed he stopped by their house and saw the stockings through the window. HE SECRETLY TOSSED THREE BAGS FILLED WITH GOLD COINS DOWN THE CHIMNEY. The bags fell into the stockings that were hanging by the fire. His kindhearted gift made it possible for all three maidens to marry.

There are many different variations of the story, but this one seems to be

the one of first legend of St.Nicholas of Myra and of the one that is believed to be the inspiration of the Santa Claus legend. From this legend after the young women live happily ever after, from the rejoiced marriages and telling of the account. It spreads through the town. Children began to hang their stockings by  their fireplaces in hope that they too would receive gifts from St. Nicholas. So the tradition begins.
There is another Christmas Stocking Tradition that may be found in Dutch lore. In Holland, Called 'Sinterklaas' arrives on a ship from Spain with his assistant 'Zwarte Piet' or Black Pete. Upon disembarking, they travel the country with Sinterklaas upon his noble white steed and Zwarte Piet riding a mule.
Dutch children would leave treats of carrots and hay in their clogs, or wooden shoes, for the horse and mule and Sinterklaas would in turn fill the shoes with small gifts for the children after the horse and mule had enjoyed the treats.
When the Dutch settlers immigrated to America, they brought many of their traditions with them. Over time. Sinterklaas came to be known as Santa Claus, and it is quite possible that wooden clogs were eventually replaced by stockings too.

These are just a few legends and traditions that I found on the Christmas
Stockings with the legend of St. Nicholas 'Santa Claus'. Its up to you and your family and friends to see if you believe in the SPIRIT OF THE LEGEND AND TRADITION THAT KEEPS IT ALIVE IN ALL THE CHILDREN OF THE WORLD.
I hope you Enjoyed this fun tale of the Legend of the Christmas Stockings and St.Nicholas - Santa Claus-
Merry Christmas too your all my dear Readers and Followers
Your Wendy with love. oooooxxxx-)

Doggie Treats-

Dog Treats for Christmas-
Something for your pets for Christmas~

Dog Treats-
Peanut Butter Pumpkin Pie Dog Treats for Christmas-
What you will need:
1can of of pumpkin 15oz
1cup peanut crunchy butter
1/2 tsp cinnamon
3 cups either white or whole wheat flour.
1 to 2 eggs to mix
2 cooked pieces of bacon (chopped finned)

Directions-
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
In a small bowl, stir together the dry ingredients first.
After they are all combined, stir in the wet.
I would put the Pumpkin, peanut butter, then the bacon
with the egg being the last.
After it is all combined pour some flour on the area you
will be working and roll the dough out to 1/2 thick.
cut out using fun cookie cutters. Even better if you have a dog bone
cutter. The dough might be a little sticky, so just add some flour
for your hands and that should help. After you have them all
cut out  and put on a cookie sheet the Bake for about
30 to 40 minus or til golden brown.
Place on brown paper to to let cool thoroughly so that they will
harden as they cool.
Should make about 2dozen  treats
Merry Christmas
